Library Card

This book is a 4 stories about what happens when 4 kids find the same blue library cards. Their lives are changed because of it. The first 3 stories were good but the 4th was a little strange.

The Phantom Limbs of the Rollow Sisters

My next read of the month after Sister Spider had a similar theme, although I didn't realize it. Young girls looking for their mother. In this book, Lily and Mabel live in rural Nebraska and run their grandmother's antique shop. Their mother left them years ago. The book is little strange, the girls are a little wild but it is strangely interesting. Lily travels to look for their mother and Mabel has a few adventures at home. A bit macabre too, I feel, for some reason.

Sister Spider Knows All

I'm not sure what I was expecting out of this book but I really enjoyed it. It's a YA novel about a 12 year old girl who lives with her grandmother and cousin. She knows nothing about her mother other than she left when she was a few months old. Her cousin's new girlfriend encourages her to find out more and she discovers her mother's high school diary. There are many layers and a lot going on in the story but it's a great coming of age novel. Really enjoyed it. But it did make me feel a bit old since the girl's mother graduated high school in 1990, just a few years before I did.

Idlewild

I had been wanting to read this book for a while and finally got my hands on a copy from paperbackswap. I love reading alternative history. This book is about the what if is John F. Kennedy survived his assassination and Marilyn Monroe survived her overdose. The chapters alternate between these 2 as well as other characters in the story. It's funny how the people in this novel focus on what if JFK was supposed to die and we wonder what would have happened if he lived.

There were some surprising twists in the book that even made me go back and read certain sections. The book culminates in a 1993 meeting of JFK and Marilyn with another surprising twist.
